  1. LASHES YOU HAVE APPLIED DON’T LAST! (Retention!!)

Fact! Client’s lashes falling out isn’t always because the client has not followed the correct aftercare, It could also be because:

  •  You are not cleaning lashes properly (having traces of makeup on natural lashes or not using cleanser or primerbefore applying the extensions).
  • Your hands are not steady and the extension doesn't stick to the natural lash properly.
  • You haven't been doing lashes for a long time, but using strong fast drying adhesive. When you are a beginner, working with strong adhesives (which are very fast drying) can be a big mistake. Simply because glue gets polymerized even before you touch the natural lash with extension. If you haven't been doing lashes for 2 years - then grab slightly slower drying (but still very strong) adhesive. In London Lash glue range it's the Velvet. It's specially designed for a low-medium level of lash experience and gives you creamy "easy to work with" texture and great retention.

2) YOU HAVE DRAGON’S BREATH!

Remember you are so close to your clients face, they don’t want to be smelling your coffee or cigarette breath for 2 hours! Always keep a pack of gum nearby and never ignore wearing a face mask!

3) YOU ARE TALKING TOO MUCH ABOUT YOURSELF AND YOUR PERSONAL PROBLEMS!

When your client finally gets some ME time and decide to treat herself with a a full set of lashes, she would expect eyelash extension treatment to be therapeutic and relaxing! If you see your client is in the "chatty mode", ask her about holidays and plans for a weekend rather than talking about yourself.

4) YOUR CLIENT IS UNCOMFORTABLE

It is so important your client is as comfortable as possible. Always remember to be gentle and don't lean or put to much pressure on your client's head. If you have to remove old extensions with tweezers be extra careful and never ever pinch your client skin with tweezers! The eye area is extremely sensitive that's why you need to pay a lot of attention to ensure the whole treatment is as pleasant as possible.

5) YOUR BEAUTY ROOM IS A MESS!

If your client walks into your salon and it looks rather untidy and messy or your house smells of soup then most likely you will not see her ever again.

Remember, you have only this first few minutes to make a good first impression!

  • Ensure your trolley is ALWAYS clean, tidy and organised.
  • Have a nice made bed before your client to lie on
  • Do not eat food around your client, or leave any food lying about
  • If you work from home, make sure it always smells fresh, hide your pets and ask your roommates to be quiet.

6) YOUR TREATMENT IS TOO EXPENSIVE FOR THE QUALITY YOU PROVIDE

Setting prices for any treatment may be a little bit tricky, after all, you don't want to lower them too much because you will end up working for free. On the other hand, if you are just a beginner you can't charge too much. Start with small research in your area compare prices and quality of work of other lash artists and then adjust your prices accordingly.

7) YOU DON’T HAVE ANY INTEREST IN YOUR CLIENT

no phones during lash treatment

If you can't be bothered to even remember your client's name, then don't expect them to come back. From the moment your client enters your salon you need to give her 100% of your attention!

 That means:

  • No replying to your messages during the treatment. Keep your mobile phone on silent and in a drawer somewhere.
  • Do not have conversations with other people in the room during the treatment
  • Ensure your workspace is organised, so you’re not getting up looking for things when your clients' eyes are shut

8) BAD STYLING

Remember that eyelash extensions should compliment your clients and make them feel beautiful, so if you choose wrong styling you may cause a lot of disappointment and put them off eyelash extension for a long time. Every client is different so you can't make the same set of lashes for each end every one of them.

Make sure you:

  • Get to know what your client's expectations are. One person's version of natural may be very different from the other's.
  • Make sure you're choosing the correct styling, length, curl and thickness for your client's lashes, eye shape and bone structure.
  • Ask to see pictures of their day-to-day makeup routine, so you know what kind of looks they are into.
  • Give advice but never force your idea on clients

9) LASHES YOU’VE APPLIED ARE NOT COMFORTABLE TO WEAR! (Stickies!!)

Stickies
ATTENTION! Stickies are very damaging to your client's natural lashes! Not only are they damaging, but they can also cause pain or discomfort for your client throughout the wear.

 To avoid stickies:

  •  Make sure you're isolating lashes properly
  • Always take 5-10 minutes at the end of the treatment, to check your work for stickies.

10) YOU HAVE ZERO APPOINTMENTS AVAILABLE!

fully booked lash technician

The last reason, may not be something you're doing as a lash technician, you just simply have no availability!

  •  Always ask your client if they want to book their next appointment before they leave.
  • If you're struggling to fit all your clients into the diary, then congratulations! It might be time to either increase your prices or employ another lash artist to help you out with the work. That would be the first step towards a big successful business!
