Boost Your Lash Business: Essential Online Marketing Tips For Lash Techs

In an industry that's growing at lightning speed, it's really important that you stay up to date with your online marketing! So whether you're just beginning your career as a Lash Tech and don't know where to start, or you're a lash pro that's unsure on how you can increase your online visibility, we've compiled some online marketing tips to help you boost your business!

Building A Website

Having a website for your lash business is essential. View your website as the backbone of your online marketing, because without a website, your online presence is pretty much non-existent.

To create a website, you don't need to be a whiz at coding or have a degree in computer programming! You can simply create a website design for free on sites like Wix & Weebly.

When creating your website, it's important to think about your client’s journey. You don't want to overcomplicate your site, so using a simple website template that allows you to have a homepage and a photo gallery of your work will be sufficient enough.

Creating Content For Your Website

When it comes to the photographs you want to display in your website gallery, you don't need to hire a professional photographer and organise a full-on photo shoot!

Instead, you can just schedule a day where you invite a client or friend to have their lashes done and take photos on your phone. All you really need to do is ensure that you have great lighting in your lash room, like a Glamcor Light or LED Light. Using a Clip-on Phone Lens when taking your lash pictures will also ensure that your photos are sharp and in focus.

After taking your photos, you only need to do some basic re-touching for them. Try not to over-edit your photos, a slight skin re-touch/smoothing over will make all the difference to the quality of your imagery. We recommend using an app like Snapseed for your editsFor more tips and tricks to help you elevate your lash photography game, check out this YouTube video!

Advertising Your Lash Services

The terminology you use to advertise your eyelash extension services is key. A client, especially a first time client, is unlikely to know the difference between a 4D and a 2D set of Volume Lashes! So give your lash treatments names like “Natural Look Lashes” or “Mega Volume Lashes” so your clients have a clearer understanding of what to expect for each type of lash set.

It's also beneficial for you to take a look at the websites of your competitors now and again, and make a list of other Lash Techs in your local area. Compare your website to theirs and write down any features they may have on their website that you could include on your own, changes you could implement, and if there's anything you think you could improve on. These comparisons could include things like do they have higher quality photos of their work, or maybe they have an easier website journey? Whatever it is, ensure that you're continuously looking at ways you can improve your website to stay ahead of the game!

Check Your Google Ranking

Once you've created your website and you're happy with the design, you'll then need to work on ranking your website higher on Google. This essentially means you need to work at becoming the first search option when somebody searches for "lash treatments".

For example, if you're a Lash Tech that's based in Liverpool, you'll want to ensure that when somebody searches “Eyelash Extensions in Liverpool” you'll be on the first page of search results. To help improve your Google ranking you'll need to work on the Meta Description of your business website. A Meta Description is the snippet of information displayed beneath your web address when somebody searches for you online.

To ensure you're utilising your website's Meta Description to it's fullest potential, it's important that you do some research! Type related terms into Google like "lash extensions", "lash treatments", "permanent lashes" and write down the most popular searched for phrases and keywords associated with your searches.

From here you can then create a list of keywords/phrases and include them into your website's Meta Description. You can also then include them on the homepage of your website to optimise your search appearance when potential clients are looking for eyelash extension treatments.

Why Alt Text Is Important!

Ensuring that your pictures have Alt Text utilising keywords in a sentence describing what's seen in that image are also important. Not everybody searches on Google for a specific webpage. For example, if you were looking for a “Green Sofa” you're more likely to click on Google Images to see the options available. From there you will click through to the seller’s website.

The reason that you see those image results when you search “Green Sofa” is because in the backend of the seller’s website they will have included the words “Green Sofa” in the Alt Text of that image. Adding alt Text to your lash images with key terms such as “lashes", "Classic Lashes", "Lash Technician” will be extremely worthwhile in terms of improving your visibility online and gaining website clicks!

More Google Top Tips

1. Google also hates old, outdated websites. So make sure that you're constantly refreshing and updating your website once it's live. Creating regular content for your website like blog posts are a great way to keep your website relevant. You could write informative blogs posts intended for your clients on topics like aftercare advice for eyelash extensions, trending lash styles, etc. Basically anything that you believe would be interesting for your clients.

2. Setting up a Google Business Page is also a must! Ask your family, friends, and clients to leave reviews about your services. The more good reviews you have, the more Google will recognise you as a reputable business and therefore rank you higher on their search page. We'd recommend aiming for at least 30 or 40 reviews.

Growing Your Social Media Followers

Developing and growing your social media following is also important in advancing your lash business. As superficial as it may seem, the first thing a potential client is going to check is the number of followers you have. The higher your following, the more likely that client will be to book an appointment with you.

A large following portrays you as a reputable and successful Lash Technician, and potential clients will “trust” you more if they see that other customers love your work. You'll also want to make sure that your following is organic. So although buying followers may seem like a quick fix, in the long term this will not help you or your business!

Ways that you can grow your following:

1. We'd recommend developing an organic following by posting content for Lash Techs like tips and lash maps that would be interesting for them, but not necessarily for your clientele. This will help you gain an audience on your profile that you can eventually switch for the final consumer. Upload those photos displaying clientele feedback and fabulous before and after pics!

2. Another way that you can gain a following is through interaction, like the tried and tested “follow for a follow”, commenting on other's posts, and of course liking other's posts. Support your fellow Lash Techs and that love will be gratefully received and given back!

3. Giveaways are also a great way to boost your following; especially once you switch your content to target clients. Perhaps run a competition for a free lash infill or free aftercare products by getting your followers to like, comment & tag a friend. This will not only increase your engagement, but it will also help to improve your business' visibility to potential clients.
