My name is Selina, and I’ve been a Lash Tech for four years.
I love doing wispy styles more than any other, but what I’m known for in Manchester is my ability to specialise in a range of lashes rather than having a niche. I love using lightweight lashes like 0.10 or 0.03 to create the most natural wispy classic lash styles, or a full dense lash line. It’s being able to be creative with each and every lash set to tailor it to the client that I love!
I honestly could not live without all London Lash products as they are part of my daily routine. I guess my number 1 product would be Flexie Glue—it’s my holy grail. I’ve tried so many glues but nothing beats it, and I would not be able to create my sets without it; plus the retention is amazing!
My top tips for new artists are to not give up, and to always keep learning. There’s always more to learn e.g different techniques or tips to help you with something you’re struggling with. Skill takes time to master and success doesn’t happen overnight. If you stay positive and keep the mindset that you will improve each day and with each client that you do, and that one day you will be booked - it will happen. It just takes time and patience.
If I could go back and tell myself anything at the beginning of my lash career, I would tell myself to not fret or be upset when I didn’t have a big clientele, but to keep pushing through and carry on trying to advertise and work on my skills. There are also times where it would be slow with clients and can happen throughout the year (quiet months like January after Christmas and New Year) but it will happen and I just had to stay positive, which I tried to do.
Instead of not posting and giving up, posting content of practice works or taking on discounted models. If you’re not proactive you can’t expect to get where you want to be any faster.
I was inspired to become a Lash Artist when I got lash extensions done on myself. Even when I didn’t have any knowledge of lash extensions, I thought that what I had received was way too heavy and long for my natural lashes and eye shape. The artist hadn’t even asked me what I wanted but seemed to do what she wanted or what she knew. Many South East Asian friends also opened up about how they struggled to find the right Artist, so I knew there was a gap in the market. I invested my time and money into lash extensions and paid most attention to how to lash different eye shapes, natural lashes etc. This is why consultations are a big factor for me and also the reason why I have many Asian clients—they trust that I know how to work with their lashes. I filled that gap in the market and worked towards being a versatile artist who is able to offer a range of different styles by using a range of different lashes to suit each client’s needs and maintain the health of their natural lashes.
If I had to describe myself in three words, I would choose determined, hard-working, and attentive.
Since starting my business four years ago, I’ve achieved and ticked off many goals that I set myself at the beginning of each year. I’m proud of myself for making that move to start my own
business but also creating my own brand. I’m proud of myself for opening my own salon space and learning how to manage a team under me. I’m definitely proud that I put myself out there at the start of this year and competed in Lash Battle, in which I won 2 Judges’ Awards and for me, it was so unexpected as I thought I’d walk away with nothing at my first ever competition.
I believe my biggest achievement to date has been becoming a Trainer and being able to pass my knowledge on to like-minded girls who want to be on the same path but not only this, having the opportunity to become London Lash Approved. I’ve not been in the industry long, but time doesn’t mean anything as I have been recognised for my hard-work and talent by the biggest brand in the Lash Industry, so for that I’m the most proud.
