Eyelash extensions for Classic lashes and Russian lashes

The Different Types of Eyelash Extensions and When to Use Them

Whether you’re a beginner lash technician (lash tech) or you’ve been in the industry since the dawn of eyelash extensions, it’s very normal to have questions about what all of these different types of eyelash extensions are — what they're even made from, and when is the right time to use each one. This eyelash extension guide will help you understand the most popular lash extension types, styles, and when to use them.

What Are Eyelash Extensions Made From?

To put it very simply, all eyelash extensions in the London Lash store (and pretty much anywhere in the professional lash industry, at this point) are made from a synthetic fibre called PBT. It's a kind of plastic used mainly in wiring — it’s sturdy, keeps its shape, is vegan-friendly, and it’s hypoallergenic, making it ideal for professional lash extensions. A big list of wins, basically.

In the very early days of eyelash extensions, it was possible to get lashes made from mink fur which, if you didn’t know, is a super cute little animal that looks a bit like a ferret, but with gorgeously soft fur.

The days of using mink lash extensions is, thankfully, long gone. Not only is it cruel to the animal, but it doesn’t keep its curl, you can’t get them wet, and their lengths vary from hair to hair. The same can be said of silk lashes and cashmere lashes. Now, the terms silk, mink and cashmere are simply used to describe the appearance of lash extension styles, rather than the material itself.

What Are The Different Types Of Eyelash Extensions?

Now that we've covered what our eyelash extensions are made from, let's take a look at the different types of lash extensions available at London Lash and when it's the best time to use each one.

    London Lash Mayfair Lashes

Our Mayfair Lashes have a deep, black-coloured fibre with a shiny finish and tapered end. These professional eyelash extensions are available in thicknesses ranging from 0.03 all the way up to 0.20, so you can get a thickness to suit any lash extension set, from Russian Volume lashes to a set of elegant Classic eyelash extensions.

Because these lashes are slightly shinier, they create a darker and more dramatic finish. If you have a client who wants a bold lash look, dramatic eyelash extensions, or full volume lashes, these are your go-to lashes.

    London Lash Chelsea Lashes

For our range of Chelsea Lashes, their black fibres have a more matt finish, and these lashes are also tapered at the ends for a softer, more natural eyelash extensions appearance.

Like our Mayfair Lashes, these lash extensions are available in thicknesses ranging from 0.04–0.20 to suit all of your clients. With their matt finish, Chelsea Lashes are perfect for creating sets of Classic lash extensions for clients who prefer a subtle, everyday look and natural-looking lash extensions.

    London Lash Matt Flat Lashes

These eyelash extensions are a total game-changer. Matt Flat Lashes are similar to regular Classic lash extensions that have been flattened — imagine taking 0.10 Classic lashes and flattening them. They’ll now be twice the width, so they look like 0.20 lashes, but weigh the same as 0.10 lashes.

This makes them ideal for clients with thin, weak, or damaged natural lashes who still want dramatic lash extensions. Our 0.25 Matt Flat Lashes weigh about as much as 0.15 Classic lashes, meaning you can safely create bold, fuller lash sets on almost anyone.

They also have a slightly concave shape, allowing them to hug the natural lashes more closely, helping to improve eyelash extension retention. On top of that, they’re super soft due to their split tip. These flat lash extensions are available in thicknesses of 0.15, 0.20, and 0.25.

     London Lash Easy Fanning Lashes

As the name suggests, Easy Fanning Lashes spring open when you grip them with your tweezers, making them perfect for creating volume eyelash extensions quickly and easily.

Want to create a set of Russian Volume lashes or mega volume lashes in half the time? Easy Fanning Lashes allow you to speed up your lash treatments without compromising quality. These volume lash extensions eliminate the need to hand-make fans, allowing you to grab and go.

    camellia easy fanning lashes

These lashes feature two layers of lash extensions on each strip, so when you grip them, they automatically fan open. They also include a mix of lengths on each strip, helping you achieve a wispy, textured finish — perfect for Kim K lash extensions and trending wispy lash styles.

When lash mapping with Easy Fanning Lashes, you’ll see three numbers on the strip, for example 10, 11, 12. This means the strip contains eyelash extensions of all three lengths. The middle number represents the average length and should be used for your lash mapping.

    London Lash Premade Volume Fans

    premade lash fans

In the past, premade volume lash fans were heavy, bulky, and often caused damage due to excess glue. Thankfully, modern premade volume lashes have come a long way.

Our Premade Volume Fans are lightweight, safe for natural lashes, and bonded with the smallest possible amount of adhesive to maintain excellent lash retention. This allows them to wrap around the natural lashes just like handmade fans, creating flawless volume lash extensions.

These premade lash extensions are perfect for speeding up treatment times, allowing lash artists to see more clients while still delivering high-quality, long-lasting results.

We know that the world of eyelash extensions can sometimes feel overwhelming, especially with so many lash extension styles, techniques, and products available. We hope this guide has helped you better understand the different types of eyelash extensions, and maybe even inspired you to try something new in your lash business.
