Lash Tech Struggles: Why Headaches Don’t Have to Be One of Them

As Lash Technicians, we deal with plenty of headaches – from last-minute cancellations to that one product we run out of just when we need it most. But the physical headaches? Those we could definitely do without. If you’re experiencing more headaches than you should, here are four potential reasons why and what you can do to reduce them.

Glue Fumes

Eyelash extension glue releases fumes—it’s unavoidable. However, there are a few tricks to reduce their impact on your health.

Start by checking your room's temperature and humidity. Lash glue’s behaviour is highly dependent on these factors. If your humidity is too low, your glue will take longer to cure, meaning the fumes will linger longer. Make sure the conditions are ideal to speed up the curing process and reduce exposure to fumes.

Using a glue ring might be convenient, but it keeps the fumes dangerously close to your airways (and your client's). Using a jade stone keeps the glue—and its fumes—further away, giving both of you some breathing room.

If your space doesn’t allow for open windows or if that affects your glue’s performance, investing in a device like the Glamcor Flow is a smart option. It doesn’t take up extra floor space, and it quietly disperses fumes, keeping your air cleaner and your headaches at bay.

Poor Lighting

Eye strain is a common cause of headaches, and as a Lash Tech, working with tiny details day in and day out means your eyes are working overtime.

Good lighting is a game-changer. Not only does it prevent eye strain, but it also helps you see those fine lash details without having to squint or strain. Natural light and basic lamps just won’t cut it—you need adjustable, high-quality lighting like Glamcor Lights. Not only will your eyes thank you, but your clients' lashes will benefit from more precise application, and your lash photos will look even better!

Bad Posture

Headaches can often be caused by muscular tension, particularly in the neck, shoulders, and upper back—areas that are easily strained when you're hunched over your clients.

A good chair and lash bed setup can make a world of difference. Your chair should be adjustable, and ideally, your lash bed should be height adjustable too. Think about legroom and how close you can get to your client without straining yourself. Use a lash pillow to keep your client at the right height for easy, comfortable lashing.

Don’t underestimate the power of taking short breaks to stretch your neck, shoulders, and back. It helps relieve tension and prevents long-term issues that could lead to headaches and even more serious physical problems down the line.

Dehydration

Dehydration is a major trigger for headaches. Staying hydrated throughout the day isn’t just about avoiding headaches—it also helps maintain your energy levels, concentration, and overall well-being.

Keep a closed water bottle near your workstation to prevent spills and make it easy to drink throughout the day. Staying hydrated will help keep those headaches at bay and ensure you're at your best for each client.

While headaches can be an unfortunate reality of the job, a few small changes can make a big difference in how often they happen. By tweaking your setup, investing in better tools, and taking care of yourself throughout the day, you’ll be able to cut down on those aches and pains and enjoy lashing without the added discomfort!
