London Lash's Deliveries are Carbon Neutral! But What Does That Mean?

You may have heard that London Lash’s deliveries are now carbon neutral, but what does ‘carbon neutral’ even mean?

Every delivery emits an amount of carbon dioxide, depending on the distance travelled, means of transport, weight of parcel etc. which is one of the reasons that the beauty industry has such a big carbon footprint!

 Environmental awareness of a plant

To make a delivery carbon neutral, you need to offset the emissions by doing things that help to reduce the carbon in the atmosphere. That might be by planting trees and other flora which take in carbon dioxide and turn it into cleaner, more environmentally helpful things like oxygen, or by investing in new technologies which pull the carbon out of the air and store it to be used later as a renewable source.

To make London Lash deliveries carbon neutral we’ve installed a handy Shopify app which calculates the carbon emissions from each individual order each month, and puts our monthly donation towards projects which take carbon out of the air and store it, ready to be used later!

Saving the planet with sustainability

What else has London Lash done to reduce their carbon footprint?

We have swapped out our plastic packaging where we can to glass bottles, which can be easily recycled and don’t release toxins if they end up in landfill

We swapped our plastic lash trays to a cardboard variant back in 2018 in an effort to be more environmentally friendly, however we quickly realised the magnet and UV printing on those trays rendered the trays unrecyclable - still better for the environment, but not quite perfect! Since then, we have swapped all of our lash boxes over to a matchbox design which have no magnets and no spot UV printing, so are completely recyclable!

Classic lash extensions and Russian volume lashes

We have swapped our polystyrene packing peanuts to a starch based version which dissolve in water, and wrap products in paper rather than bubble wrap where possible.

The film packets that our lash extensions and some of our brushes come packed in are plant-based instead of plastic - they can even be composted!

 Using recyclable materials for environment

In place of completely disposable mascara wands and lip applicators, we have introduced reusable stainless steel handles and disposable brush heads, which reduce plastic waste by around 80% on these products!

We’re always looking for new ways that we can reduce our carbon footprint and reduce our reliance on single use plastics, and we’re excited to see what the future brings for London Lash and sustainability!
