Top Lash Extensions Placement Tips
How you place your eyelash extensions on the natural lashes can have a huge impact on your retention. If this is something you're struggling with don't worry! It's a very common learning curve for beginner lash technicians, so we're here to give you some tips to help you become a placement pro!
General Placement Advice
You should always be aiming to have the extension flush against the natural lash, with 2-3 mm of attachment area. This will help you a lot with retention issues as it will just give the lashes more to hold on to.
By having the extensions flush against the natural lashes, you also minimise the risk of your lash brush catching on the base of the extensions and pulling them off as your client brushes through them.
If you're having trouble applying the extensions due to your client's natural lashes growing in unusual directions, try applying the extensions to the side of the natural lash, instead of the bottom or top of the lash, and this can help you to get the right attachment area, and will also keep your lash sets looking neat and tidy.
Distance from the Eyelid
The distance that you place your extensions from the eyelid will come with practise, time and confidence. You should be aiming for a gap of 0.5-0.7 mm between the lash extension and the eyelid, with that 2-3 mm of attachment area to keep your sets looking tidy and fresher for longer, but it's better not to rush this as placing extensions too close to the eyelid can be uncomfortable for your client. Keep practising, and this will come naturally.
Top tip! If you're having trouble accessing the lashes to be able to place the extensions closer, try taking a piece of tape to pull the eyelid back a little bit to make those lashes easier to access. This is particularly useful in the inner and outer corners, just ensure that when you do this, the eye remains closed to prevent chemical burns!
Don't Be Afraid to Start Over
Last but not least, if you see that the attachment isn’t right it's a good idea to remove that lash and place a new one correctly! You will save yourself complaints from unhappy clients and most importantly, you will save your client from discomfort caused by badly attached extensions.
