What Is National Lash Day, And Why Is It Important?
So, why exactly is National Lash Day such a fantastic occasion? This iconic day is celebrated annually on February 19th, when lash lovers come together to show some extra love to those tiny hairs that can express so much about our personalities. We celebrate eyelashes not only for their beauty and unique ability to enhance our appearance, but also their significant role in protecting our precious eyes! Many people don't realise just how vital our natural lashes are to our eye health. They help to keep dust, debris, and other nasties from getting in our eyes. So, taking care of them should be a top priority! By educating ourselves and others, we can ensure that everyone understands the importance of maintaining healthy lashes.

Eye-Opening Facts About Natural Lashes
We wouldn’t be doing this special occasion any justice if we didn’t share with you some interesting facts about lashes!
1. Our eyelashes mimic the same behaviour of a cat’s whiskers. If something comes too close to your face or eyes, your eyelashes will detect it and warn you when your eyelids need to close to protect your eyes.
2. It was recently discovered that our eyelashes typically begin forming whilst we’re still in the womb! Approximately between the 20th and 26th weeks of pregnancy.
3. Natural lashes have only two ‘ingredients’. They’re made up of 97% Keratin (a protein found in hair, skin, nails, and natural silk) and 3% Water.
4. We have roughly 200 to 300 individual lashes on the upper lash line and about 100 lashes on the bottom eyelids.
5. Our natural lashes are a habitat for tiny eyelash mites called Demodex Mites. But don't worry, they’re only harmful when there’s an overabundance of them which can cause Blepharitis. So keep those lashes clean!
6. Did you know that we’ve been styling our lashes since as early as 4000 BC?! Eyelash tools have been found in Ancient Egypt, and it was also known the Ancient Egyptians would use kohl to darken their eyelashes, too.
7. The first-ever non-toxic mascara was invented in 1913 in France by Rimmel. However, mascara didn't become popular in America until Maybelline debuted its first formula, which was a mixture of coal and Vaseline.
8. The average length of natural lashes is approximately 10 millimetres. However, the world record for the longest-ever natural eyelash is held by You Jianxia from China, with her longest lash measuring a whopping 20.5 cm (8.0 inches)!
