But where did this crazy phenomenon come from?
The London Lash Pro team decided to do some research into the origins of Black Friday to give you curious cats the lowdown!
Black Friday History
“Black Friday” was a term first coined by police in 1960s Philadelphia! It referenced the chaotic day after Thanksgiving where shoppers would flood to the city causing retail chaos!!! Shoplifting, fights – you name it, it happened!
We like to think that our Black Friday’s today are a bit more refined… especially when you can shop online for your products – you don’t have to leave the comfort of your own sofa!
Feeling Spendy!
Despite its huge marketing potential, Black Friday only made its way across the pond to the U.K in 2010!
However, that hasn’t stopped us going crazy for the retail event! Last year, Brits spent a whopping £9.4 BILLION pounds on Black Friday weekend 2021, while shoppers in the US spent $8.9 billion dollars online alone!
Just imagine all the London Lash goodies you could purchase with that money…
Drunken Antics…
What rhymes with Friday?
G&T! Well not quite… But 12% of shoppers admitted to tackling the Black Friday sales while drunk!
That figure is based on footfall alone… we couldn’t give a figure for how many glasses of prosecco are knocked back whilst browsing the London Lash Black Friday sale, but we reckon it's a pretty impressive number...
