The London Lash team decided to do some research into the origins of Black Friday to give you curious cats the lowdown!
The History of Black Friday
“Black Friday” was a term first coined by police in 1960s Philadelphia. It referenced the chaotic day after Thanksgiving where shoppers would flood to the city causing retail chaos! Shoplifting, fights – you name it, it happened!
We like to think that our Black Fridays these days are a bit more refined… especially when you can shop online for your lash products – you don’t even have to leave the comfort of your own sofa!
Black Friday Shopping Extravaganza!
Despite its huge marketing potential, Black Friday only made its way across the pond to the U.K in 2010!
However, that hasn’t stopped us going crazy for one of the biggest retail events of the year! In 2021, Brits spent a whopping £9.4 BILLION pounds on Black Friday weekend, while shoppers in the US spent $8.9 billion dollars online alone!
Just imagine all the London Lash goodies you could purchase with that money…

That figure is based on footfall alone, so we couldn’t give you a figure for how many glasses of prosecco are knocked back whilst browsing the London Lash Black Friday sale, but we reckon it's a pretty impressive number...
